Throughout my life, I have worked with animals, comforting those who were injured or in pain, having strays come up to me - animals who never went to anyone, would come over to me. I didn’t know what I was doing or projecting, I just knew that I had a special relationship with animals.
Since there were very few children in my neighborhood, I spent the majority of my childhood playing with my dogs. It was rare that I didn't have one within arm's reach. This has continued through adulthood... we have three now, one who is my constant companion.
Many years ago, I had the pleasure of partnering with my first horse, who taught me more about myself and energy than any person or course possibly could! When I was nervous… he was impossible! When I was centered… he was perfection! He was a mirror to my emotions and taught me that the best way to handle any situation is through being centered and grounded.
When around animals, I naturally touched them at their heart chakra… without knowing what I was doing. Many years later, when I formally studied energy work, the habits of a lifetime finally started making sense to me.
Since that time, I have treated horses for arthritis, lameness, stress, colic, ulcers, soreness, heaves, broodmares, and for general well-being. I’ve worked with performance horses, mares, foals, aged horses, pleasure and abused/neglected horses.
In addition to healing animals, I have also been blessed with the ability to communicate with them. This is wonderful when working with animals to help with any physical or emotional issues they may be having. We know there are times when our animals want to tell us something, now we have the opportunity to actually hear what they want to say to us!
I have used Reiki for a myriad of issues related to dogs and cats...diseases, injuries, emotional and behavorial issues. They absolutely love the energy and often refuse to 'wait their turn' when treating several at once! It's great to combat separation anxiety, which is a huge problem for 'only dogs'.
I am a certified Usui, Tibetan and Karuna Reiki Master and have worked with energy and animals for most of my life. I share my home with my husband, seven horses, three dogs and three doves. We use Reiki as a way of life around here to keep everyone happy and healthy.
This is something that I would like to share with other pet owners and trainers. I've seen it turn angry, distant or aggressive animals into cooperative participants. There have been horses who were down with mild or gas colic and would jump up - back to normal within just a few minutes, with no residual problems. One older dog who was crippled with arthritis - suddenly started acting like a young puppy again, running and playing with others, virtually pain-free!
People have use relaxation to solve physical problems for thousands of years, thru massage therapy, chiropractors, acupuncture - and they share those treatments with our beloved pets.
